Artist's Comments

Wow, finally finished this. I started it back in August 2008 and kept poking at it bit by bit. I changed things here and there, and redid parts as I decided to use different techniques, so all-in-all, it's a mess, LOL! Seriously, I used so many different techniques to paint this it's like a visual map to how I kept changing my mind.

Fanart of my EQ2 Arasai fury named SoulRider. I was feeling seriously lazy and instead of drawing the formal outfit she's currently wearing (forest assassin's ensemble, IIRC) I just gave her a simple shift to wear.

The tree trunk is a wreck. I must have repainted that 5-6 times before I just stopped. The stonework she's crouching on was changed at the last minute to what it is now and I'm much more leased with it. The leaves, bush and vines were created using the wonders of PS default brushes. Srsly. I think my light source is as confused as I am.

Reference photo used for the pose -->[link] by double-crow-stock.

Typical Photoshop & Wacom tablet tools and some grunge brushes for the stonework.
Time taken is completely unknown (although it went quicker once I knew what I wanted to do).
Everquest II & EQ2 are (c) Sony Online Entertainment.
The character is fine, the player is a gimp. :D

Thanks! I got lucky and found the awesome photo reference I used which fit with the idea I had in my head, so I can't take all the credit for the pose. :)

My tablet is really old - like pre-2001 old. It's one of the earliest Graphire models actually, the ET-4050-U to be exact. Some days I'd love to get a newer model (the Bamboo Fun looks to be a good call) but this one does what I need it to do (and was free!), so I'm content for now. Maybe once I finally upgrade the old computer I'll spring for a new tablet while I'm at it.

Rhyssa, this is stunning! There's not a single thing that I don't like. The colors are so rich that I feel like I could sink into them. And I think the outfit is perfect. Anything more elaborate would have taken away from the mood, imo.

I'm glad you finally finished it so you could share it with us. :)

Bravo!

Glad you think so. I see several things I do differently (like not being so lazy on the leaves) but overall I think it turned out pretty good. This was the first character I tried with something other than "real" skintones, and I guess it worked.

I was going to do a version with tattoos running down the right arm, but I forgot them when I was finishing things up. Maybe I'll do a version without the wings but with the tattoos instead, just for variety. Although, I shouldn't get into the habit of redoing all my old works, lol!
