Well, I finally did a straight out fanart for Naruto (Genma doesn't really count, that was for a fanfic).
Sakura Haruno.
What to say... amazingly I didn't work on this all that long. The hardest part was the size of my reference image that I based the pose on. Plus I wanted to work a bit larger for once. The hair is so streaky and meh! It's like I'd forgotten how to paint hair or something, but short of completely scrapping it and starting over, I just kept working on what I had. Yeah, I'm just not happy with it, but not sure how to fix at this point.
I tried something completely different for the skin shading, going with a straight out different color instead of shades and tones of the skin color, and I think it turned out pretty well. It was a bit of an experiment that turned out all right and the green works well with her pink hair.

EDIT 8/6/2008 - I uploaded a slightly corrected version of this image today. The biggest change was giving her eyebrows, which I somehow completely forgot to do the first time around. I also added some teeth on suggestion and tried to soften her jawline somewhat, since I was getting reviews that she was too masculine looking. Oh, and highlights to the skin.
EDIT 6/27/2009 - I've done an updated version of this piece which can be found here => [link]
I like it! I can't comment about likeness or anything because it's been too long since I've seen Naruto, but as a drawing, I think it's pretty sweet. I agree about the shading. I think it turning out nice. There's something about her mouth that bothers me, though. I'm thinking there should have been a slight flash of teeth because her lips are so parted and because of the angle that we're looking at her from. I could be wrong, though.
I made some changes to the image, based on some comments. Tried to soften the jawline a bit (no clue how well that worked out), gave her some teeth (you were totally right!) and gave her eyebrows (ZOMG!! How'd I miss THAT?). Oh, and highlights on the skin, too. Overall I think it's better. Still not perfect, what what artist is ever satisfied?
Hey! I saw this over at Chuunin on LJ and I had to full view it! You did an AMAZING job on this whole picture! Stunning realism. I can't do it so well myself>.< ^^ Keep up the great work!
Thanks! I'm planning on eventually doing pics of Hinata and Ino as well, as soon as I find the spare time. Not sure if I'll do Tenten though, she doesn't interest me as much for some reason
Someone posted somewhere else in a review that they didn't even notice the change to the eyebrows. I know it wasn't a huge change, but I'd think missing eyebrows is a pretty big thing, right?
